FIU Generic BSN Fall 2019

Published

Hey! I've only seen a topic for the ABSN, so here is one for those applying to the generic option.

I'm currently studying for my re-take of the TEAS. The first time I got a 86.7 average and a 83.0 on the science section. Also, I'm working on the video.

Hi! I also applied to the program. My GPA is 3.74, in the teas I got an 83.3 overall, 93.8 math, 83.0 reading, 70.8 English, and 80.9 science. I have around 700 volunteer hours and a couple letters of recommendation.

Does anyone by any chance know when the first batch of letters are going out?

i've heard that end of may we'll know something.

hey guys i have around 500ish hours. 3.96 gpa and 89.3 on the teas

Hello,

I just wanted to know I was reading all the comments. I havnt done any nursing program before. Does this program require that you are a nurse or did pre-nursing? I have my high school marks and I took 3 classes in university in Canada. I see that everyone has hours. Can someone please give me steps on how to qualify for this program thank you so much!!!!

There’s a couple things you need to do to qualify. For starters, you need an associates degree and to take the pre-nursing prerequisites which you can find here https://cnhs.fiu.edu/academics/nursing/undergrad-nursing/programs/generic-bsn/admissions/index.html

there’s other things you need but you can find it all in the link. Good luck! ?

Thank you so much! How long is it for an associates degree and which school did you take it at if you don’t mind. Is there no program where you go straight into nursing from high school? Here in Canada we just go straight into nursing.

I've never really heard of a program where you go straight into nursing from High School. You can always get an associates in nursing and then become an RN to work at a hospital but that's two years. After that you can do the RN to BSN program. The Generic BSN program that this chat is about is because our associates isn't in nursing and we never became RNs. I did my associates at Miami Dade College but you can do it at any college.

So the associate degree you took was in a different field, not nursing, and now you want to become a nurse so you have your associate degree, then go into generic, to become an RN with a BSN? So when I apply for an associate degree it will be in nursing aka pre-nursing and become an RN, then I apply for RN-BSN? So I don't do the Generic BSN program at all? This is all new to me because in Canada you graduate high school, go straight into nursing for 4 years as a RN with BSN.

Exactly. You wouldn't do Generic BSN unless you have an Associates that isn't in nursing. At least I'm pretty sure that's how it works. If anything you could talk to an adviser so that they could point you in the right direction.

just got my acceptance!!!
