First Week Stress

This is for anyone who is stressed out during the first week of nursing school...

I just started and already we have a test of 350 med terms this friday. We have to make an 82% or above or we get dropped, just like that. It's really scary but very exciting to see if I can actually buckle down and graduate...and I WILL!!!!!!!!

How is you first week? Any words of encouragment?

Just finished my first week too. That test sounds like a lot! 350 med terms in your first week? wow. My first week was relatively easy I thought, lots of reading, two tests, three labs, plus a math class, but nothing we can't handle. I think three people already dropped out though....keep pluggin along and good luck with your test!

i taught medical terminology. i have 2 words for you:
flash cards
. make them now. put the ones you can do without a problem in a separate pile and only go through them for giggles every one in awhile. make a pile for ones you absolutely can't do and take them with you everywhere and go through them whenever you have a minute or two to spare. you should have a third pile of ones that you can do but falter on--you really don't know them well either. you need to be going through that pile a couple of times a day but not as much as the pile of words you flat out didn't know. any little tricks that help you remember a word--use--no matter how dumb it is. no one else will know what it is unless you tell them. watch your spelling (i took off points for spelling--my favorite ace breakers were ophthalmologist and anesthesiology).

Thanks! Yeah ive made flashcards,gimmick test, said em out loud a million times (im an audio learner), and wrote them over and over. me and my classmates calculated and we can miss 63 total and pass with an 82% in the class. We have to make an 82% in every class or we get dropped! This class has 350 with that ebing 80% of our grade and 20% being participation in groupwork. I think i got it in the bag now with these study tips! i took a fake test today and missed 8...!!!!

We have had A LOT of reading, power points and terms. We have already had to be signed off on hand washing and proper use of isolation gowns/goves/mask/eye protection.

We were demo'ed full head to toe physical assesments yesterday and we have to do them for instructors Tuesday (and we don't have class Monday!)

We had an all day long hospital orientation today!

We have three tests the last week of January (Funds, A/P, Growth and Development) and two test the first week of February (Geri and Personal, Family and Community Health).

Yup...feeling the pressure!
