finding a few good men

hospitals are working to bring more males into the female-dominated nursing work force

I suppose it would be wrong to post billboards showing a group of hot female nurses...yeah, that would be wrong. Effective, maybe, but not the sort of professional image we're looking for.

But, seriously, folks...I wonder how much thought has gone into recruiting other non-traditional pools. For example, I'm not just male--I'm also old. A couple of relatively new nurses I work with are nearly as old as I am, and nursing seems to me to offer some advantages to middle-aged people: flexible hours, multiple opportunities. I don't guess the possiblity of relocating almost anywhere is something a particular facility would want to play up, but I considered it an attraction, even if I doubt I'll ever use it.

My facility does brag about being chosen one of the best places for workers over fifty by the AARP or someone. That could be used in recruiting. Although, it does seem like I have noticed an accelerating rate of decrepitude, since becoming a nurse...
