Like many of you, I am very excited to be in my last semester of nursing school. I feel like I am ready to make that transition into the role of a RN. There is one thing that concerns me however- the statement that "nurses eat their young". Why is this? Why do nurses feel the need to treat the new graduates with such disrespect & a general attitude of unkindness? Doesn't this go against everything we should be standing for as a nurse?

I am precepting now and where I am doing it, there are some new orientees. I actually see nothing but kindness, patience, and help; toward them and me. It is nice. I have heard some horror stories, but I think it all depends on where you are.
