Feeling discouraged

Published

I was working on getting into a nursing program but I barely ran into this sight. Reading through all the negative comments on this site I'm not sure if this is something I should pursue, even if Ive been so happy to thinking that this was right for me. If this dosent work out I just don't know what other type of career id want to pursue. Is there anyone who has gone through this and everything turned out good?? Or is there really no hope?

Well, the average adult goes through 5 careers in a lifetime. Having said that, some go into nursing in and love it, some go in kinda liking part of it and some don't at all. Nursing will require all your effort and requires everything you got. nothing but full commitment to it will get you kick out of the nursing program.

Andy, I am an "old" newly-graduated nurse. I graduated with my ASN in December, and I take my NCLEX this Thursday. :nailbiting:

I spent most of my working career as an engineer (Go Purdue!!!), but after having my last 2 jobs in a row basically shipped to Mexico, I decided to go back to school and study nursing. It hasn't been easy, mostly because I had to UNLEARN "engineer-thinking", and LEARN "nurse-thinking". They are NOT the same!!!!!!

But I like it, and assuming I pass NCLEX (God-willing), I am looking forward to my 2nd career.

Good luck whatever you decide.

You need to remember that nurses come here to vent to others who know where they are coming from.It doesn't mean we don't love our jobs or regret being a nurse. It's just hard to explain to your family and friends the stress and frustrations you deal with at work. Not very often does anyone start a thread about a great day they had.Nursing students come here for reassurance when they want to cry and/or pull their hair out.Nobody understands that like another student or a nurse that has beeen there. It doesn't mean that nursing is a bad career. Like another careers it has it's stressors. politics and bad days.It can still be a good choice of career.

In a nutshell. You got it and I agreee!

There are a number of specialties to choose from in nursing; you are bound to find one you like. This is an anonymous forum where we can express our frustration & feel understood. Venting at work is inappropriate, & friends/family may not relate as well. That is why you see the negative comments.
