FAU 2015 ABSN Applicants

Applications are open for FAU's January 2015 enrollment date! With just over 4 months until the deadline and 8 months to the start of the program, now seemed like as good a time as any to start a forum to ask questions, relay information, and support possible future classmates.

To start off, I was wondering if any one knew if they normally offer a ABSN program that begins in the Spring. I had only heard of admittance to the Summer semester at the beginning of May.

Best of luck to everyone!

Just wanted to pop in and answer this for you. I am currently entering the 2014 ABSN program at FAU. 2015 will be the first time they will be doing a Spring semester start to the program. It seems they are performing a pretty big overhaul with the format of both the traditional and accelerated programs. Best of luck!

I will be applying to the ABSN program for the spring semester. I have a question about retakes of classes, do they accept second attempts? I got all B's in chemistry, a&p, and microbiology and I didn't know if I should retake these classes to get an A. Thanks in advance!

If I recall correctly, I read on the site that they do take second attempts, but they have to be taken at a state university. I think there's a general rule that community and state colleges do not let you re-take courses that you've earned a B in, but universities will. For the life of me, I can't figure out where I originally read about it.

I read the same thing. You can retake it but it has to be at a State University. I remember reading it on FAU's website somewhere but also in the other FAU 2014 posts here the old advisor posted and clarified this as well.

I tried to find the information on their website for application but it has not been updated yet. Have you already applied?

*** just took another look. are you applying for the accelerated track? ***

Kathleen: I applied for the most recent Spring term, but was not accepted due to incomplete pre-requisites. That definitely taught me to always read and re-read every part of the FAU website. And I am applying for the accelerated track; I already have a B.S is Biology.

Are you applying for the ABSN as well?

Kelly, this is Dr D and for sure retaking a course is accepted. But, be careful, some students have retaken courses many times. We only use the first 2 attempts. While I know that this does not apply to you, some people have taken courses 4 and 5 times to get an "A". Thus we implemented the rule that we evaluate the first two attempts and use the highest of those 2 grades. I hope that helps.

It's always so nice having an official faculty member of the school actively following the forums and help answering questions! Although it might take you Dr. D a minute the effects it has on future nurses applying to FAU CON is endless. It shows how much you care, and when I was applying I greatly appreciated! You are awesome Dr. D! ! !

Hi everyone!! I am applying to the ABSN spring term. A little nervous with timing specially TCAS transcripts. Online they recommend to allow 5-7 weeks for processing and Ive been out of state and unable to get the TCAS transcript request paper to the transcript offices of FIU (where i got my BA). Will be flying this Friday the 1st back to florida to take care of that..Do any of y'all have an idea of how long it took your transcripts to show in CAS?? Thanks a ton!!

Welcome cgonz067! I think the FAU website says that you can submit your application before NursingCAS has received all of your transcripts, so I do think you need to worry too much about time. If I remember correctly, it took about 2 weeks for them to receive my transcripts (but there's a possibility that FSU is just abnormally slow when it comes to processing transcript requests!).

Thanks Amandinator makes me feel more at ease..

I'm curious to know what FAU considers a competitive TEAS score? I took mine two days ago and ranked 85% with a score of 77. Not really happy about score. I did great in reading and science but absolutely bombed math so bad I wont say what I got!! My prereq science GPA is so far 3.8. Just missing my final grade for AP2 which will get in the next couple of weeks (hoping its an A). I got all my eggs in one basket (FAU) and im nervous!! Any info is welcomed and appreciated!!
