experience while in school

can i work in the icu or nicu while attaining my bsn? i eventually want to be a crna, so it would help if i can have some experiece. if i can how long before i could? i wont be an rn until i'm done with my bsn, because i'm doing a traditional bsn. thanks a lot

Let me get this correct, you are not an RN at this point and don't have a license to practice as an RN?? If not then you will not be able to work in an ICU unless you can find a job as a tech. I hope I have understood your post correctly and have not offended you if you are already an RN.

Sincerely,

Tia

i worked in an sicu while in school for the same reason...i wanted to go to crna school. it was a great experience to help me get a job in the icu as soon as i got out of school. definately do it! I started working on med-surg. my sophmore year and my senior year i did the sicu. your local hospital probably has requirements on how much clinical experience you need before you can work in certain area. just talk to human resources...they will give you all the answers you need! i just found out i was accepted to crna school this week!! The earlier the experience the better!

I would look into an extern position in an adult icu (sicu, cvicu, micu, cicu), if not, patient care tech position. You will learn a lot and can often secure an RN position after graduation.
