how to enter the overseas nursing programme

Published

I am a nurse in the Philippines, I am working in one of the biggest hospitals in Metro Manila for more than a year now. Having my own family now, I think it's high time that I start processing my papers for opportunities abroad. I really want to work in the UK but I dont really now how to properly start the process of applying for the ONP. Now I am currently reviewing for the IELTS and will take the exam of the 9th of July.

This morning I went to British Council office in Ortigas and inquired if they can help me to get into a university which offers the ONP. I really did not expect the options that they gave me, the education officer showed me a flyer of a university in the Uk which offers a BSc (hons) nursing and healthcare which has an integrated ONP. the man said that because the curriculum here is different than in the UK, I still have to take other subjects. I thought that if ever you received the NMC decision letter then you will be able to apply directly into the Overseas Nursing Programme.

what universities are the best and cheapest to enroll in?

Can someone please clarify these things so that I start processing and gather my requirements.

Your help will be very much appreciated.

Thanks in Advance!

The approved ONP courses are listed on the NMC website but be aware completing ONP doesn't mean you will find it easier finding employer. The NHS is going through a lot of changes with UK nurses struggling to find work so employers may not be willing to go through work permit process with you

Do we need a UK TIer 2 visa before completing the ONP? Do we have to find employers first?

The thread started in July 2011. Things have changed since. Check this list. If you don't fall into the list then don't bother applying to study in the UK because if your goal is to work and live in the UK, then it's not gonna happen.
