I know you don't have to enroll but do you have to send in and pay for your application fee first? Who do I need to talk to? Also any tips on what to expect would be great.

Hi! You can take NC 1 & 2 without enrolling in the college. To get scheduled for the exam you can call the college or do it on-line. Go to the website at http://www.excelsior.edu At this site you will find the phone number or you can register on the site. If you do it on the web site you will have to set up a free account with them--it gives you the info on the site. Just click on register for exams and if you don't have an account made it will prompt you to do so. If you prefer to call them, call the toll free number and follow the prompts to register for an exam. Once paid you must wait about 3-4 days before you go to the prometric of your choice to schedule the exam. I always went to http://www.prometric.com and followed the prompts after the 3-4 days. If you try to register to soon your info will not be within the prometric system and you will have to wait longer. If you need further help call excelsior they will help you get it set up.
Hope this helps and good luck!

Just took NC 1 earlier this week. You have to pay the $205 up front before you can schedule to take the test. I registered over the phone and two days later was able to call Prometric and make an appointment (in my state, at least, it is difficult to schedule a test with Prometric at a convenient time because they are generally so booked up, it's just something you may have to deal with).

I took NC1 3 weeks ago. I really wasn't terribly difficult. Know therapeutic communication, adpie, med calculations and basic medication administration. At the test center you will need a photo ID and the authorization to test letter that EC sends you. It says to be there early, I was and they started me early, I was then done early. The test is 130 questions, all multiple choice via computer. You can mark those you are unsure of and go back to them at the end. You get your score immediately on the screen. When you leave you will get a paper copy of your score and then your grade will show up on EC's web site in a day or two.
If you are looking for files/help with the tests you might want to join yahoo and some of the study groups. I have found yahoo very helpful. Last night I participaed in a study chat session that was very helpful. Register on the site and then search for distance learning groups or EC nursing groups. I would recommend rnstudygroup.
Hope this helps:)
