E books, anyone?

So instead of doubling the pile of useless textbooks currently residing in my bookcase, I would prefer some e books. Someone posted in this forum about using their iPad for this but for the life of me, I can't find the post! Can anyone give me some info? It looks like the nutrition bundle can't be avoided but.....if I can avoid buying some or all of the others that would be great.

Depending on the available format for the required books for a class, you can buy them new, used, rent them, buy the e-version such as kindle (which is available as an iPad app) or a computer download. I've found it just depends on the class and the availability of the book. Some classes, such as music, have you buy the book then give you online access. If you can get the ISBN numbers you can search for available formats.

I use ebooks!! There were only a few classes where the book wasn't available (assessment, nutrition, the very first class, and one other book that is escaping me). I usually just google "ebook ISBN #". I've had great luck with Kno for the last 3 classes (leadership, diversity, and global health). I also had ordered one book from Barnes and Noble/Nook (I think that was family health, unfortunately for that one it wasn't iPad compatible, so I had to use my laptop). I also ordered 2 directly from Elsevier (community health and gero), they also have their own app. Elsevier was a little trickier because it didn't come up in my google search right away. I eventually found it by going directly to the Elsevier website and searching their ebooks (if I remember correctly, those classes were a while ago).

I absolutely love it. All of the apps I've used have had highlight and note functions. I also love that I can use the search bar. It makes discussion posts so much easier. And my very favorite part is that I can wait until the day the class starts to buy my book. They usually download in less than 10 minutes. :)

I also want to add that some of the ebooks are rentals, so the ebook is only good for 6 months.
