DWI in previous state

Published

I have a very specific and unique question here. I am currently a practicing RN in a state that I will not mention. However, I have a DUI conviction that this unmentioned state does not know about because I lied about it on my application and they apparently never checked. It's been over 3 years. I am in no way condoning this, as I know this was the worst thing I could've done and I feel the guilt every day. I'm already expecting a lot of backlash and criticism for what I've done. And now my wife wants to move to Maryland. She knows about the situation and told me not to lie in the first place. She still wants to move though. So that's why I've come to this forum. I want to be forthcoming about the conviction to the MBON, as I wasn't so smart and honest before marrying my wife. She knows everything there is to know about the situation, but my state BON does not. So my question is: if I apply for my license in Maryland and claim the conviction, will they 1. See that I denied it on my previous application?, and 2. Notify my previous BON that I did? I'm not looking for your judgement here. I did what I did because I had to. A $10/hr job wasn't going to cut it if I didn't get my license after 2 bachelors degrees worth of loans while my wife (gf at the time) was pregnant and she only had a high school education. Not really an excuse, but at the time that's all I was thinking about. And to this day, my wife and daughter are the two most important things in my life. So please, spare me any judgements and preconceived notions you might have and only respond if you have any helpful input. Thank you in advance. John.
