Dutchess BOCES LPN Program

lets start a forum for Dutchess BOCES students 2010

You're in the class now? How is it? I'm applying for their September 2011 part time class.

Does anyone know if they offer full financial aid? Not loans, meaning a federal grant and NY State TAP. I started off at WCC where I paid nothing out of pocket. I just can't take the drive anymore, but also can't afford to pay anything out of pocket. I refuse to take out any loans. Thanks ;)

I'm not sure if they give any other financial aid besides loans, I just mailed in my application ,I really want to be in the program,if I don't get in i'll just keep doing my bio courses at wcc then transfer to dcc for my rn

Hi Upstate! Sorry it took so long for a reply but as you know, nursing school keeps you busy!!! Have you heard anything? Im in the full-time class so its accelerated. Very tough to stay on top of the work especially if you work at all--but its doable! You have to stay focused and let your social life fall to the way side for awhile--but its going to be worth it! Good Luck!

Hi Trying! I kow for sure that they don't accept TAP because I could not use my award--even though its a full time program. They do have Title 4 (I think thats what its called) and Perkins grants based on need. A few of my classmates have a full scholarship based on financial aid. Call Mr. Dombrowski at 845-486-8001, he is the Financial Aid Guru--very sweet man who really trys to find money for you! Good Luck to you!

Keep me posted!

Thanks I appreciate your input. I have a special needs 3 year old and another on the way. I work 2 jobs and my hubby, well does not...haha. So I am BUSY already and tired. I NEED to do this somehow. Hopefully my husband will eventally find a job and I can stay home with the kids and do this program...I would assume I couldn't handle the full time, so part time is something I would have to do.

Hopefully there is aid for the part time. I am in my 30's and it seems impossible to finish a program with the kids...I have no clue how other mothers do it:confused:. I have been on the waiting list at Westchester CC for RT, but the travel was too much...and its full time hours plus some....just doesn't seem doable at this point in my life.

Hi Arctophilos, thanks for replying! I completed my application and am waiting to get my letter about the admissions test, was the admissions test hard? I'm wondering if I get accepted can I handle full time, even though I probably wont be working(can't find a cna job so far  )

Hey Trying maybe if we both get accepted we will be classmates! :)

That would be great! Now I haven't even applied yet, so I hope I am not too late :( I keep calling and no one picks up the phone. Did you just go in person and apply? There website is aweful IMO...wish it were more like Ulster Boces site.

Yea their website does stink, I just left my name, number, address and told them I wanted an application then I kept calling back to see if they got my message. If you have a car it might be a better idea to go in person.

Yay I got accepted and am scheduled to start Sept 8th full time.

How how is it going....did you start? I am looking to apply again this year as I had a baby in April...so now that she is 6 month I think I am ready to go go go :) Once again, I can't get them to answer the phone, so what building or where do I go in person? I call the main number and they won't answer any questions they just keep transferring me.
