Nurses LPN/LVN

Has anyone ever heard of someone not receiving their license because of a DUI? I had one back in 1999. It was a horrible mistake and something I regret terribly. Upon registering for the NCLEX the board advised me that my license COULD be withheld due to the conviction. I had to send all the papers clearing me and my police record. I took the test on 3/26 and just got the letter I passed the exam but the board was still investigating my conviction and has not made a decision about giving me a license. I am so bummed! I can't imagine they would not accept me because of one stupid mistake I made many years ago. Any opinions???

questions we seem to be encountering more and more often have to do with the effects of a criminal history on nursing licensure:

  • is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a criminal history?
  • is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a dui or other related charges?
  • what happens if you are charged or convicted of a crime after licensure?
  • can i go to nursing school and/or be licensed if my record has been sealed or expunged?

these are questions that the members of allnurses.com cannot answer. the only reliable source of information is your state board of nursing.
