DSON students- HELP, trying to get started

Hello out there!!! I have been putting off nursing school for years now!! Mostly out of fear and because my youngest is 6. I have some medical experience- I am a non-practicing medical assistant! My maternity leave has lasted for six years! I have downloaded the DSON Catalog and have read the Admission Policy and Procedures, but would like to know from someone, anyone who has actually been through the process. I would like to know what to expect from start to finally being accepted, about how long it all takes? I would more than likely have to do the prereq. courses. I am curious if the prereq. courses are blended in with the nursing courses or do they get those out of the way first? Do you have to pay for the prereq. courses first, then depending on the GPA do you have to reapply or interview to get in to the program? Questions, questions....Any advise is greatly appreciated. I have read nothing but positive things about this school and would really like to get started. :thankya:

Well I was done with my pre-reqs when I applied, but I have a little insight into that. I am from California and I I went to DSON on December 5th. I had my interview, took the hesi, turned in my application, and was accepted the same day. (For the April cohort) I filled out my enrollment agreement and everything. As far as the pre-reqs go, you take them before the core nursing classes start. I have a friend who only has a couple pre-reqs completed, so her first 2 quarters are only pre-reqs and she says that it is about 5,000 dollars. Plus, the new federal funding does not cover pre-reqs. It is more expensive than community college, (By ALOT!) But you get them done in a much shorter period of time. You get accepted into the program (after passing the hesi) just like you do if you have finished your pre-reqs, but I am assuming you must keep the minimum grade requirements just like when you are in the core nursing classes. I hope that helps!
