Drug Calculation

Just wondering if someone would be able to help me with this please? Thank you

1. Your client is on an Actrapid infusion 250 units in 100 mL Normal Saline running at 4 mL/hr. How many units of Actrapid is the client receiving per hour?

2. 24000 units of drug is diluted in 500mL Normal Saline. The infusion is running at 19 mL/hr. How much drug is the patient receiving per hour?

3..The prescriber has ordered your patient to receive 85 mL of IV fluid every hour. How many drops per minute will the client receive if the tubing has a drop factor of 20?

4. child weighs 15 kgs and is ordered Erythromycin 320mgs TDS. Stock is 100mg/ml. The recommended dose for children is 60-80mg/kg/day in three divided doses.What is the daily minimum dose?

5. A patient is ordered 80 mg of drug every 2 hours. The infusion is prepared as 3.0 g in 500 mL of 5% Dextrose. How many mL/hr do you need to set the infusion pump?

    I must first say that I am not the greatest with math and I absolutely hate it lol, but here are the answers and rationales that I came up with. Hope this helps!

    1. 10 units/hr. Rationale: 250 units per 100ml. 2.5 units per ML and its running at 4ml/hr.

    2. This problem I used the same formula. I just figured out how many units per ML which gave me my answer of 912units/hour

    3. I believe the formula for this problem is rate (85ml)÷60minutesX 20(drip factor). This should give you gtts/minute.

    4. I multipled the pts weight(15kg) by 60mg which is 900mg. Divided into 3 doses is 300mg which equals 3ml per dose.

    5. I think you have to convert 80mg to grams. Then use the formula for D/H = 13.33ml/hr

    ONCE AGAIN....I am not the greatest with math! I hope this helps, good luck!

    Generally speaking we ask students to at least show us their attempts to try to solve the problems. This helps us guide the particular student so that they have a complete understanding of how to do the problems on their own. In guiding the student we try to avoid giving the actual answers instead choosing to help show them how to figure them out on their own.

    Im new to this particular forum so I'm not sure who you're referring to when you say "we". I certainly dont want to break any rules if there are any, but I didnt see any rules/guidelines listed. Are we not allowed to answer one another's questions?

    It's the social convention of this forum and not a written rule. Yes we can answer questions but in the case of medication math we (the regular members of this forum who provide assistance to students) have found that when the poster is guided to figuring out the answer for themselves it has much more impact and allows them to have a full understanding of the concepts. Many posters come to this site and list out questions word for word without any input and get answers. Yay! Homework done! We have been burned enough times that we know better. That is why we ask the poster to provide their own thoughts/attempts and so we can see where they are having difficulty.

    Hi there, sorry for not responding to you or the other person in here. This is my first time and im not really sure how it works however, just because someone post a question without simplifying the question doesn't mean that person has no understanding of what the question is talking about. I thought this platform is for helping each other without being judgmental.
