Another possible contributory factor to the current problems of the nursing profession is the "choosiness" of a lot of the unemployed licensed nurses. The POEA has said it has unfilled job orders of more than 20,000 nurses for health facilities in the Middle East, Singapore, and several European countries, such as Norway and Belgium.

Several of the unemployed but licensed, qualified nurses interviewed for this article said if they can help it, they would rather work for health institutions in the US, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand and avoid at all costs the "hardships" of Middle East postings.

POEA should get their facts straight... Singapore? European countries? Belgium? Middle east countries (except Saudi Arabia)? They think we did not apply to those countries because we are just being "choosy?":argue:

How about if they try to consider if we are "qualified to work as RNs" in those countries?

i dont agree with that statement. if filipino nurses are "choosy", how come many are applying in the middle east?! the reason why we are stuck here is because we lack the necessary required 2 yrs experience to be able to qualify to work abroad! POEA is just blaming us for the negligence of the authorities who are suppose to be protecting us.

The blame should not only be placed on the students (the ones who enrolled w/o knowing are excluded) who know that there will be obstacles locally & overseas, but also on the government and the schools who are basically advertising overseas jobs after graduation. If you are aware before enrollment that there are obstacles, then that's your choice. If you really want a job as an RN, and I believe many people on this forum really want to work, then you're going to apply to other countries too as another poster has stated she/he has been doing. I believe it's partially true that the Filipino graduate is "choosy", but there are those who really want to work and are willing to work anywhere.
