Does this job count?

Hi everyone!

I have a question, it may sound silly but I'm a bit confused about where I can work that counts towards my revalidation...let me explain...

I qualified as a RMN last September. I have been looking at a new role which is a recovery worker within "mind" mental health charity. You do not need to be a nurse for this role.. Its more social model recovery role but they want you to have some qualifications in mental health/ counselling which I have.

If I took on this role would it count towards my revalidation hours? Or do registered nurses need to work somewhere more clinical to be regarded as still practising as a nurse?

Im not sure if this makes sense? Any advice would be gratefully received!

Amie :)

If the job does not specifically ask for RN qualification, its unlikely to meet the requirement, as it means it can be done by a non-nurse.

You could try forwarding the JD to the NMC and asking them, but I think its very unlikely they would accept it.

The general rule is if you need to be a nurse to do it, then it counts in your hours. I would advise that you contact the nmc though to clarify.

Remember, the 450 hours is over three years, so only works out 150 hours a year, or three hours a week. Maybe there's something you could do part time or bank to make your revalidation hours up so you don't give up a job you love? Just a thought...
