Do you think would be worth it?

I'm in my 2nd semester of nursing school now, and loving it! So my school has an option that you take during the summer where you get a nurse preceptor and complete an extra 132 hours of clinical experience on a med/surg floor. The cost is about $1000 for this. If you complete the med/surg one successfully they will let you do it again in your last semester of school, but you get to choose which specialty you want (ER, NICU, L&D...) I'm also a student nurse extern at a local hospital in order to gain experience. Do you think its worth the cost of this course to get extra clinical time or no?

Wait you pay the school? Wouldn't it be better to work as a CNA ?

Yeah, it counts for credits so you pay tuition for it. Doing this you get to work more in the capacity of an RN (inserting IV, foleys, med administration, etc.) since it is under the school.

Why not just get a job on a unit you are interested in? Then you are the one getting paid for the experience. Plus, if you want a job on that unit when you graduate, you already have a foot in the door.

Depends on your job market. If it's competitive, like most seem to be, I would say go for it. $1000 is nothing if you don't have to spend 6-12 months looking for a job because you've received more training then your fellow graduates. You'll make up the cost in the first week or two of work as an RN.
