DNP

I had a question about this intergrated suggestion of DNP. I want to attend a FNP program online. There are quite a few master programs that are offered. If I choose to attend the masters program will I have to go back and obtain a docturate? If someone could clairfy this possible intergration I would greatly appreciate it. My mind might change about the program if I will need to obtain a docturate. Thank You

The recommendation for the doctorate degree for entry to advanced practice is just that, a recommendation by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN). Aside from the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA), no other professional or certifying organizations have endorsed or implemented this requirement.

If the requirement does change, it is likely that those NPs in practice with a master’s degree would be grandfathered, and allowed to continue practicing as long as their license does not lapse. In addition, it might be required if you were to apply for licensure in another state.
