Disability - schizophrenic

can a schizophrenic become a nurse? the illness is under control.

That's a relative question. Some boards of nursing require disclosure if a candidate has a recent history of treatment for mental health conditions. The board reviews the situation on a case by case basis, sometimes requiring documentaiton from the treating psychiatrist. Some states have 'absolute' restrictions on working as a nurse while taking certain medications (regardless if the potential nurse is stable, shows no signs of dependence/addiction, and has been deemed safe for practice as a nurse by their physician).

So in theory, anything is possible---so therefore yes it is possible for a stable schizophrenic to obtain a license and practice as a nurse.
