Hello all
I live in St. Louis area and I am have taken 3 nursing courses so far but unable find anykind of work in healthcare field/hospitals, etc.
I have a BS in Community Health but I am looking for a job in healthcare/hospital where i can also take class or classes.
I interviewed for Unit Secretary and sev other hospitals but never make it past interview, i have updated my resume and do great at interviews.
Would anyone have any names of people i may contact that may have suggestions for me on finding jobs in healthcare. I have looked mainly in St Louis area hospitals. I am even planning to do some volunteer work in a local hospital too.
Thank you

I'd be curious for suggestions for getting a hospital position, also. We are about the same age, but I have a BS in Management Information Systems and want OUT and in to the nursing field. I should be starting an RN program locally in the fall.
While I am in school, I will need a job that has some flexibility in scheduling other than M - F 8 to 5. I have submitted applications for Unit Secretary and admitting clerk to a large local hospital, but don't even get a call. I'm afraid it's because I look "overqualified" although I did secretarial work for years and have no problems doing this type of work.
I am not looking for anyone to pay for my schooling; however, I would like to stay current on my car payment, cell phone, insurance, etc. while I am a student once again!!
Any suggestions?!?!

St Johns Mercy (Creve Coeur) has a program for nursing students - you would work as a "Patient Care Associate" (essentially a tech) doing patient care under an RN. Pretty much any hospital in the area welcomes nursing students to be employed as patient care techs. The only problem I can forsee is that you haven't really gotten far in the nursing program, which may put you behind. When I was between my jr and sr years of nursing school, I worked as a tech at MoBap in their float pool. It was great because you more or less scheduled yourself. Plus, it was good experience, and helped me to see what specialties I did not want to work in (because I worked in them all).
Good luck!

i spent the longest 8 weeks of my life as a traveller at st. mary's in clayton. i would not recommend looking for a job here unless you want to quit nursing before you start. unbelievably horribly managed by unbelievably horrible people. honest to god.

Try St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield. Several people I know from school have gotten jobs there as PCTs. You needn't have any clinical experience--they'll train you. I think they've still got a few positions open, as well.

Wow, Cinnamongirl, where did you work there? I used to work there on 3E, and I LOVED it. A great crew of very helpful, knowledgeable , team playing nurses with great skill. I know, however, there is a particular manager for a certain unit who is awful and consequently, has other awful folks working for her. ????
Gee, Carla, I was going to suggest St. Mary's, particularly if you have had any clinicals. My experience was completely different than Cinnamongirls.
What nursing school do you go to?
