Difficulty finding job. DFW area.

Published

Hello all,

I have been searching for a job as a new grad in the DFW area since I first graduated here in NY as of May 2020. The market has been difficult and I feel so defeated. I’ve only gotten one interview for my dream job in L&D, and I was turned down. I have my BSN and I would prefer not to do home health/LTC. Does anyone know of any way to get an OB/GYN job in the area? Even if it’s only offices... I use Indeed.com but they never filter nurse residencies correctly and all the jobs I find require at least a year experience. Any tips would be appreciated. Thank you all and stay safe!

OB nursing can be hard to break into even for experienced nurses, even more so for new grad nurses so you may have to adjust your expectations and just focus on getting nursing experience regardless of what specialty you start in. Look up all the hospitals in the area, go to their websites directly to apply for positions. Make sure to post your resume on Indeed so potential employers can come to you as well. Look up all the OB/GYN offices in your area, go to their websites and see if any jobs are posted. Be fore warned though, in most areas RN's are not heavily utilized in a clinic and doctor's offices.

Another option is to expand you LD search to a national level and move wherever you get employed. I don't know if you're willing to move.

Ultimately the longer you go without any kind of nursing job, the fewer options you will have. While working in a specialty you don't like may not be exciting, the nice thing with nursing is that once you get some experience breaking into new specialties becomes easier. I've reinvented myself a couple times over my career so far and it has allowed me to learn and experience multiple settings and my experience is far from unique.

Good Luck
