Differences in Simulation Labs

Was wondering if those with personal experiences in CRNA school sim labs can comment on how they differ or whether some are more advanced, realistic, etc. than others.

I'm interviewing with several programs (primarily west coast) and am curious if these programs' labs differ greatly. For example, I assume Merritt's sim lab has been around for many years, whereas I've heard OHSU's sim lab is relatively new ... so I'm curious if the technologies in these two labs differ significantly.

Thanks!

While I can't comment on what those schools' sim labs are like, I will say that from my experience thus far as a first year SRNA, as you're looking at schools the bigger concern should be how good their clinical sites are. Sim labs are great and newer is probably better, but being out there getting experience with the real deal is a whole different ball game. I'd specifically suggest looking into how much experience you'll get with blocks, pediatric experience, and what students average for # of cases.

Good luck with your search!

I agree with the above poster. We had an awesome simlab, however very little scheduled time in it - and not a lot of free time avail to spend time on your own. On your own meant for the most part unguided. For practicing things like induction over and over without a patient, we just went to the OR on the weekend instead. Don't let this make or break a decision for you.

Agree with the others, Sim Labs are only so realistic. Just nice to run through steps in situations you'll see in the OR before you actually see them.
