differences in educations for nurses around the world

Published

Hello to all!

I am really sorry if this topic already exists.

I am a nurse from Slovenia and would like to work abroad. But I am a little bit confused because it seems that nurses in different countries have very different educations and work tasks.

I would be really happy if you would help me and describe the system in your country. I am especially interested in Germany, Austria and England.

Here in Slovenia we have three types of nurses.

- the first is a person who finished 3 years of high school and can only take care of patients personal hygiene

- the second is a person who finished 4 years of high school and is also responsible for i.m. therapy, bandaging wounds, oral therapy and urinary catheter (just for woman, not man)

- the third is a person who finished 3 years of college and has a diploma, she/he can also collect blood, set i.v. ....

I would really appreciate your help!

I think you will find most of Europe requires BSN when it comes to meeting their nursing requirements. If you check out the NMC website it lists requirements
