i'm putting together my protocol for my new cardiology job and also filling out my credentialing apps for the hospitals. the credential app wants a copy of my supervision agreement, but we have always used the term "protocol." are these the same thing?? it seems like it to me...

thanks guys!

Hi, I'd be really interested to hear about how you like your job once you start it. Cardiology is a definite area of interest of mine. Let us know how your job is going and also what you do on a typical day.

i don't know whether your state calls it under a different name but i am thinking that the document they are requesting is the equivalent of a "collaborative agreement" as it is called in my state. the collaborative agreement lays out the role of the physician whom you work with in your practice as a nurse practitioner. michigan nurses association has sample templates in their website. i don't know if it will help you but here's a link:

...and not only is this document required by most credentialing boards in hospitals, it is also required in order to get a DEA number for prescribing controlled substances. This is the rule at least in Michigan.

Just an FYI, this quarter's Journal of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners contains an article on Collaborative Agreements and Hospital Credentialing for ACNP's. The article is written by an ACNP, a faculty member from UIC it looks like.
