Desperately Need Help Getting Started!!!!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Here's my situation. I just recently graduated with a Bs/Ba in Marketing. After working for just a few short months I realize business is not for me. I want to go back to what I had originally chose as a major - Nursing.

Now that I've already graduated I'm lost as to how to get back to school. I don't understand how applications go and what's even needed. But I know I need to complete a few more prereqs like A/P before I can apply to a nursing school. And most improtantly, I don't know how to pay for it all.

I'm currently looking for a new job as an admin assistant or desk clerk at a hospital/med office so I can reacquaint myself w/ a medical setting. I told my mom of my possible plans and she strongly recommended i don't go down that route (btw she's been a peds nurse for over 20 years now). I would love her support in my decision but I realize I may just have to pay for nursing school myself which I have no problems with. I'm just absolutely lost on what funds are available for someone in my situation.

wondering if someone has been in my shoes or still is? how can i explain to my mom that I know now this is what I want?

is anyone from the orlando, fl area that can refer me to accelerated programs or lpn/lvn programs or even of any avail jobs?

any tips/advice is greatly appreciated! thanks everyone!

Hi, i was in the same shoes before, it was the other way around tho', my mom wanted me to take nursing from the get go but stubborn that i am, i chose a diff. major.

I started to go back to school in 2005 but did not register at all in 2006 and just came back last year again for my pre-reqs. i would suggest go to your county college and inquire abt their nursing program (if they have one) if not, you might have to go out of your county to find another school, start finishing up your prereqs, since you have a BS degree, im sure a lot of those will be credited towards nursing program. take it one step at a time, send an application, have your transcripts from your previous school evaluated and they'll tell you what classes you can take and you can go from there. Ive only been taking one class per semester and im currently finishin' up w/ A&P II. im planning to take microbio in summer, child psych in summer 2 and sociology and chem in fall and hoping i could get in to accelerated program come spring 2009.

about the tuition fees, there are a lot of grants out there -- you can do some research online and also FAFSA ... you can apply for student loans.

you can do it! take it easy.... before you know it...you're almost done.

Best of luck.
