Dell Children's

Does anyone work at Dell Children's, or know someone who does? It's been impossible to find a position in L&D anywhere in Seton, so I'm thinking about starting somewhere else and moving into L&D later. The only other unit I can imagine working is peds med/surg or something like that to get some good solid nursing skills (I'm a GN) and then transfer to L&D later on down the road. The only offer I got was Brack Med/Tele, and I feel like I Wouldn't be happy doing that kind of nursing.

So... what do people think of Dell Children's?

Where did you graduate from? I graduate in May and your situation is what I'm afraid of. I also wouldn't be happy on an adult med/surg floor. But anyway, I just finished my pedi clinical on a med/surg floor at Dell Children's and LOVED it!! That hospital is amazing! I heard the ER hired a ton of new grads last year and a bunch of RN's are about to go on maternity leave so you might try the ER. Let me know how everything goes bc that's where I want to work in May!

Yeah... unfortuately this has been the case for me, for a full year now. I graduated from TCU in Fort Worth last December 2007, I've waited for 3 Versant cohorts to get an L&D job with Seton with no luck. They are NEVER hiring for L&D. So I guess I'm gonna either move on to something else for now, or try St. Davids. I sure hope Dell is hiring because I'm about to let go of that Brack offer!! :) I hope you have better luck than I did sweetie :)

I worked as a CA (clinical assistant- their version of a tech or CNA) in the Dell Children's ER last summer and absolutely LOVED it!!!!! Awesome environment, really fun people to work with, I would HIGHLY recommend it if they have any openings available.

Does anyone know if Dell Children's is affiliated with University of Texas or another academic institution? What are the other Children's Hospitals in the Central Texas region?

As far as I know Dell Children's is not affiliated with any Univ. Students from all over central Texas do clinicals there though. I graduate in May and I applied there and I've been told they are not hiring new grads. Scott and White in Temple also has a children's hospital

Thanks for your reply. I'm surprised they are not hiring because the website looks like they are hiring new graduates for June. They even have a Nurse Residency Program. I believe other units that are part of Seton are hiring.
