Delegation question

Is there a list somewhere of "scope of practice" for RN's, LPN's and CNA's?

These questions stump me.

TIA!

If you have a LaCharity book, at the beginning of that book, it has the role of all of the listed discipline......

Good luck..........

Good luck with this type of question. Hopefully, you won't have any on your test.

Question about the La Charity book, even though I like the book, it says that a skilled LPN can listen to breath sounds, every other book says no because thats assessment. I know in the real world LPN's do almost everything but for the nclex I wouldnt pick that answer. If you have the book under respiratory problems page 29 question one, it ask which actions are appropriate to the scope of practice of an experience LPN (select all that apply) and the options were

1. Auscultate breath sounds

2. Administer medication via MDI

3. Complete in-depth admission assessment

4. Check O2 saturation using pulse oximetry

5. Initiate the nursing care plan

6. Evaluate the patiets technique for using MDI

I picked of course 2 and 3, because only a nurse can use the nursing process, but when I checked the back I got it wrong because I didnt pick #1. The rationale was a EXPERIENCED nurse can gather and make observations. I was thaught only a nurse can assess and isnt listening to breath sounds assessment.

Yes, that is correct, when you read a question that involves a specialty unit and EXPERIENCED comes before LPN OR NURSING ASSISTANT, chances are they are able to do a little more. However, although the LPN has gather this information, she must report it to the RN who will make the judgment call.

Keep going, the book is awesome..........

LPN/LVN can not ASSESS, TEACH or PLAN........however they can observe, gather and report to the RN.
