Declining a job offer?

Published

Hi everyone, so I'm in a bit of a predicament. I was offered an RN job at a clinic weeks ago, in which I have already signed the acceptance letter. I started the physical exam/drug test & background check process for that when an opportunity to interview with a hospital came up. Since I was still waiting for results for the other job, I went ahead and interviewed with that hospital. Turns out, i was also offered a position there! I want to take the hospital job now (which will require me to move a few hrs away).Basically my question is, can I still back out of the first job since I'm still waiting on results, even though I've already signed the acceptance letter? & if so, can I please get advice on how to do it professionally (I don't want to burn any bridges).

An acceptance letter is not a contract. You can still withdraw your acceptance (just like your offer can be withdrawn) at any time.

I would resign in person, since you have already signed an acceptance letter. Also bring a letter with your resignation.

Simply say that you appreciate the opportunity but due to some unforeseen circumstances you are unable to continue with the employment. That's all.

Thank you for your helpful advice, I will do just that.
