dayton internship programs

I was wondering is it hard to get into one of the internship programs for RN's at Miami Valley, Goodsam, or Grandview? I really want to do one of the internships, it seems like the process is very lengthy with all of the paper work and letters of recommendations you have to have. I interviewed for Grandviews internship but I was still in school and didn't make it, I was wondering should I call them back now that I have passed my boards and am an RN now? It seems like these take like a month to get an interview and I NEED A JOB!!

I don't know anything about Grandview's program, but I know a bit about MVH's and GSH's. I don't know how hard those are to get into, as not many of my classmates applied for them. I applied to MVH's program in August with letters of recommendation from two of my clinical faculty, got an interview in October and accepted a spot the next day. I graduated in November and passed NCLEX on Dec. 26th.

I would certainly reapply if you are interested, but I know GSH starts on Monday the 7th and MVH on the 21st, so you may need to wait for the next class to start at this point. Good luck!

I knew that MVH hospital started on the 21st of Jan. I really like MVH and would love to get into the internship they have. I am just waiting for my letters of recommendation to be turned in. One of my instructors said she would be able to have it done on tuesday. Those are the only forms I have left to turn in. I wonder if I can get an interview before those are in. I would really like to start the 21st bc I NEED A JOB!!!

I am not a nurse, but know a bit about the MVH intership. The internship is easy to get excepted into, the process is lengthy but I don't know of anyone EVER to not get accepted that did the paper work.

With that being said, the internship is for 'new' nurses meaning you've been a nurse less than a year. So if you missed the deadline you can apply in the fall and work somewhere now.

Good luck!

ETA: I have been a PCT there for over 6 years.

That's true, too. A friend of mine was torn between applying for the OB internship and working as an RN on the unit she was a PCT. They reminded her of that, so now her plan is to work on the floor 6-9 months and then do the internship, since she can do it for up to a year after starting work.

I would also add that the competitiveness of the internship depends what track you want to go into. They have an ER track, for example, that they only accepted 2 people into, and I know the NICU/OB tracks are usually quite competitive also because of the amount of interest and limited space.

I'm going to do the Neuro/Trauma track and all I had to do once accepted into the internship was inform them of which track I wanted, and I was in.

I would really like to do the ER, ICU, or CCU track. I hope they like me when I interview. I had an interview in Dayton at a nursing home today and they offered to pay me more than MVH did when i interviewed there for a floor position! I don't really want to take the LTC job bc I will be passing meds and not a supervisor. I just feel like I would be doing the exact same thing I was doing as an LPN except making 5 more $ an hour. I really want to be in the internship. Does MVH only start the internship 2 times a year? I also thought about taking the LTC job until I can get into the internship at MVH. I turned my packet into GSH today so I also have that. I was glad to hear nobody gets turned down as long as there is an opening for the track you want to do. Wish me luck I want the ED.

They didn't really say, I told them I was interested in the burn unit, bariatrics, and nero! So hopefully I get to see all of them!

I am really pleased with orientation so far. We have two weeks of class type stuff before hitting the floors, but they have been very accommodating and want to make the internship a good experience for everyone. I had a concern with one of my rotations and after only casually mentioning it one time, they managed to switch my rotations around the next day. :) Orientation seems really thorough, so hopefully it will continue to go well once we start rotations.

Specializes in lots of specialties.
