Cumulative Final Exams

Hey All!

I started nursing school 5 weeks ago and we are already having our final exams next week for Health Assessment and Professional Role of the Nurse. This will be our 4th and final test and most of our grade is based on this. On the past 6 tests (3 for each class) I have done quite well, getting between a 90-92 on all of them (only frustrating because at my school that is considered a B+). Anyway, I was wondering if any of you have any advice on studying for the cumulative final? There will be SOME new material on it, but for the most part it will be cumulative. I don't want to get too in depth, but I know I need to review some things and am not sure how to go about it. Any advice would be VERY appreciated, thank yoU!!

Since your classes are so fast most of the material should still be fresh in your mind. My study plan throughout college for cumulative finals was focus the most on the oldest material and what I struggled the most with.

At our school, in general the cumulative final has approximately 50 to 70% new material that was not on previous exams followed by questions for each section of previous material.

As shared by the previous poster (pp), focus on your weak areas, but also make sure you study for the new material that wasn't on previous exams as if that material was just it's own separate exam.

I find doing as many NCLEX questions as I can handle per period of time where the questions are related to the material being studied help the best. For free nclex sources, check out nurselabs as they tend to be very good. I hear NRSNG | Helping Nursing Students Succeed. Period. has free resources as well. I also use Lippincott Q&A for the NCLEX-RN along with the appropriate Davis Success Series Q&A. Online, I'm typically using UWorld and ThePoint (the latter a Lippincott product).

Those of us who had a 4.00 GPA coming into the nursing program lost it the first semester. While I do recommend shooting for A's (I do that as well), don't slam yourself if you are not getting A's. Since this is your first semester, use this as motivation that if you are getting so close to an A you can taste it in your first semester, how much better (even if better is a staple of B+'s) in future semesters.
