CU Denver 2020 Traditional Program

Hello!

I hadn't seen a post from anyone about applying to the June 2020 start so I figured I'd make one! I submitted my application back in September and just received notification that it was verified and eligible for review. They stated that they plan to get back to everyone no later than Monday, December 16th.

I just wanted to link up with some other people in the same boat! I have a Bachelor's degree from CU Denver in Communication, and am now going back to get a BSN. I spent the last couple years getting my science prerequisites, and got a 4.0 in all of those! I kind of screwed up my first couple years of college way back when, so my cumulative is only like a 3.2 including my previous Bachelor's (graduated with a 3.0), but my last 9 or 10 semesters (including summers and prereqs) come out to almost a 4.0 (one A- in there). I have my CNA certification and worked as a CNA for about 6 months as well.

I'm so anxious to hear back!! I almost didn't apply because I thought CU was too competitive, but I just went for it. My backup plan is MSU Denver accelerated. I think I have a decent chance of getting called for an interview, but after that it's anyone's game!

I'd love to hear from others who are applying, or who have applied in the past/gone to CU Denver!

Good luck to everyone!

Hi!

I just saw your post. I also applied and just received the email today that I got an interview! I'm super excited and would love to hear other people's advice or experiences with CU interviews! Hope everyone is getting the same good news soon!

Congratulations!! I just received my email to interview last night as well! I’m so excited/nervous! I’ve heard from a couple of people that it’s typically a group interview format.

Hi!

I also received an interview! When are you both interviewing? I was looking at previous threads and it seems like a lot of them met up before the interview. I think it would be nice to do something like that as well. My interview day is the 10th.

I'm interviewing the 10th as well, check in at 11:15! I want to start preparing but I really have no idea how to prepare! I think maybe that's the point.

Hi All,

I am interviewing the 10th as well! Is anyone going to the honors informational session?

Hey All!

I will be interviewing on the 10th! I will be gong to the honors informational session beforehand. My thinking is that if says "optional" it probably means "mandatory". Anybody have any insider tips from people that have gone through the interview process before?

I might go to the Honors information session... I'm not really interested in doing the Honors research project though, so I haven't decided. I have a bit of a drive to get there, so if I get there early enough I'll go, but I'll just have to see!

How is everybody feeling? I'm getting so excited, but also super nervous! This is like the final step, so I'm feeling the pressure a lot! I just want to make a good impression.

I just did some digging about the Honors Program. It states that one of the expectations of Honors Program students is that they'll pursue a PhD after graduation.

Well that makes the decision easier. I have written a thesis and I am not excited to write another any time soon. I do plan on going for a DNP. I wonder if that is included?

  • Author

From what I gathered, it's intended for if you want to pursue a career in research... so, I imagine maybe a DNP would be included if your career goals are more research based, but it's hard to say! It specifically said that doing the program will make students more prepared to pursue a PhD. Here's a link to the info I found: https://nursing.cuanschutz.edu/docs/librariesprovider2/program-documents/bs-honors-program/bs-honors-handbook.pdf?sfvrsn=62409bb8_4

And now the wait begins...

How did everyone feel about the interview?

I felt pretty good about it! I was in the first interview session which was kind of nice because I got it over with right away. I thought the interview process went really well, I had a great group. The student panel was a little intimidating, just hearing their stories about night clinicals and crazy schedules! I have kids, so it made me think about how I'll manage that, but I'll have to make it work! It's going to be a long 5 weeks!
