CSUF ABSN Fall 2020

Hello! I wanted to create a thread for those interested in/planning on applying to the CSUF ABSN Fall 2020 cohort. Applications open up in a couple of days! I just wanted to know how everyone is feeling about themselves and create a place where we can talk about the process.

Don't believe there's already a thread created, but if there is, please link the thread haha

Hi @fobbymomo! I was JUST looking for a thread regarding CSUF ABSN 2020 applicants. Glad I found one. As the application deadline draws near I find myself becoming nervous but very excited!

Hi @nelle! Glad to find someone in the same boat! Super excited for this process, but definitely very anxious as well. Is CSUF your top choice? And have you completed all your prereqs already?

@fobbymomo Definitely! And yes, CSUF is my top choice. So fingers are crossed! Currently I am taking Physio which is my last prereq. How about yourself?

@nelle CSUF is currently the only school I can apply to since I need to finish A&P II and a public speaking class in the upcoming spring semester. I wanted to ask the advisor if an upper-division writing class fulfilled the oral communication requirement, but they told me that they recently changed their policy where they can't answer syllabus questions anymore? Seems a bit odd to me.

@fobbymomo oh I see. That is a bit odd. Have you tried checking assist.org? In my opinion I don't think the writing class would sub for a public speaking class, but it wouldn't hurt to check and make sure. At least that way you don't have to waste time taking it if you find out you end up not needing it. Were you reaching out to an advisor at CSUF?

@nelle It was an upper-division writing course that I had to complete for my bachelors! It lists oral communication in its course description, and also counts as fulfilling oral communication prereqs for other schools (such as UCLA). I emailed the same advisor that had answered some syllabus questions (and double-checked other courses), but she emailed me back today saying she can't confirm if my upper-division writing course fulfills the requirement. I can take a public speaking course in the spring, but I would prefer not to if I already meet the requirement aha

@fobbymomo oh then perhaps that would be fine. Such a bummer though that your advisor cannot be more clear with you however ? Don't know if it's your current campus advisor or one at CSUF? Best thing might be to find someone at CSUF who you can talk to who would be able to clarify that. I wouldn't want to be unsure

@nelle Sorry! I should've clarified that when I meant advisor I meant CSUF's open-enrollment advisor for the ABSN program! That advisor had helped me back in June with clarifying if other courses met the requirements, but when I emailed back recently, they said their policy changed.

@fobbymomo oh I see! Yeah I remember reading that they may not even look at transcripts to tell you if you have the appropriate classes because they get far too many request to (which makes sense). I guess the best you can do is talk to your current school's advisor and also doing some deep personal research. May be a bit tedious to do, but the best thing I can think of. Best of luck! Hope you find your answers soon!

@nelle Aw, what a bummer! They had checked my classes back in June so I thought it would be the same now. It states on their website that the Oral Communication should be a lower-division course, so my upper-div course might not count sadly.

How many points do you think you might rack up for the application?

@fobbymomo Maybe to be safe just take that speech class in the spring!

I'm estimating about 117. I'm really trying to lowball myself so I don't expect that I'm higher than I actually am, haha. How about you?

  • Author

@nelle I'm hoping to get around 83-93 (need to double-check on my CNA licensure first). Does your 117 include the essay points?
