Crossing the Line?

Recently I just quit my job to look for a CNA job to give me experience and such. I had an interview with one place (ltc) and it was ok. She basically told me I got it but had to wait on reference checks, background check, and drug test to come out alright. Orientation starts Wednesday so she is suppose to let me know soon. This place wasn't my first choice. I hear they're way understaffed with 150 beds. It is also further from my house than I would like. The pay isn't that great either, 8.00 plus shift differentials. I would be working 2nd shift, full-time as a floater. But I know that in order to get where I need to be in my career, I'm gonna have to start from the bottom so I know I'm not always gonna have my first pick. I wasn't gonna stay long either, just 6 months to a year. I just want experience and hopefully get a job somewhere where I can work 3-12's while going to nursing school. (if I get in the fall)

Now I applied to this other place. It's a lot closer to my house and the facility is super nice. It has an assisted living side and a skilled unit side. I applied for both, but the only one that was hiring was the skilled unit side. Anyways, I met the DON and the guy doing my application and both seemed very interested. They copied all my docs and ran a background check and everything. I felt, however, that the person processing my app was kinda giving me the eye (I could have read too much into it). I didn't really think anything of it but when I called today to ask about the status of my position the DON said "oh you're that cute college girl that came in last week to apply"...um "yes?" was all I could say. He said he would LOVE to have me work for them and that he would ask so-n-so about the status of my background check.

So I still would rather work at the place that's closer to my house. But do you think that comment was inappropriate? Should I stay with the first place? I'm just worried if I go with the 2nd place (if everything works out) that I will be getting "cute" comments a lot and I'm not really into that. Any advice? Do you guys get that a lot. My last job had men managers, but they were all gay so it was never an issue.

With gas prices going crazy like they are, i would suggest going to the one closest to you, however make it VERY clear to everyone you are there to work, not play! This isnt Greys anatomy people!! IF (god forbid) something was to happen, report it IMMEDIATLY!!!

Its your decision but the better paying and closer one would be my choice!

yeah, I kinda feel the same way! Just wanted to get other people's thoughts!

yes take the one closer to your house. and as soon as you start working put your foot down and let them know comments like that are not ok with you, dont pass up on this opportunity b/c of a comment. that's probably his personality dont really know the guy yet, however, let it be known you do not like comments like that

Yes, of course that was an inappropriate comment, but it doesn't necessarily mean you'll be subjected to sexual harassment on the job. I wouldn't let that ridiculous unprofessional remark deter me from accepting a job offer from a 'super nice' facility that's close to home. Just ignore any foolishness around you and take advantage of all the good experience you'll be getting at that job.

I agree with the previous posts. Take the job you want, one comment doesn't nessacerily mean you are going to face that during your whole time working there and it could have just been a one time thing. Plus, you will save more money and you'll need that for nursing school. Never settle for letting others make comments you don't like and speak up if you are uncomfortable with something someone is saying to you. You will be comfortable at work if you stand your ground. good luck!

Take it! People will make crude comments wherever you work. If not HR, then probably a patient or resident might. Just brush it off and be sure you're careful around that person.

well I took the one closest to my house so hopefully it works out....I'm gonna be working Sat and Sunday 3pm-7am. 16 hours a day, full time. Oh Lord. I hope to God I don't run out screaming my first day on the job. This is my first CNA job mind you. I just thought the hours sounded good since I go to school during the week. eek!

Let us know how it goes! :) Don't cut corners-- coworkers can pretty hostile to you if you're new; they can say what they want. Just do your work and I know you'll do great!
