CRNA Licence

I have a question I know you will be able to answer for me. I was wondering if once you obtain a licence as a CRNA or pass CRNA boards, are you entitled to practice in any of the 50 states?

If that isn't the case, how do you get a licence in other states? reciprocity or taking the exam again?

I was asked this question by my optometrist today, when I told him I will be going to school to become a CRNA, and I didn't know the answer.

Thank you:p,

Yamile

You have to apply for a license in each and every state where you wish to work. As a RN or CRNA. Simple as that....................

Back up a bit- CRNA is not a license, it is a credential. Passing the certification exam entitles you to use the credential CRNA. But licensure is a matter at the State level and here's where the water gets muddy :uhoh3: . The state requirements about licensure to practice as a CRNA vary. In some states you are "licensed" as an advanced practice nurse in addition to your RN license, in others you may need a state "speciality certification" in addition to the RN license and in others the requirement may be different yet. There is a page on the aana.com website that gives requirements by state for more specific information. :)
