CRNA alternate

Hello,

I was recently chosen as an alternate at Middle Tennessee School of anesthesia. This alternate situation is really stressful because the school does not release how many alternates are on the list or what the rank of each alternate is. From what I understand last year one person was asked to be in the class 2 days before class started. WOW, I wish I had an idea of how many alternates there are so I could plan a little. If anyone can help or if there are any other alternates PLEASE REPLY.

Take it from a former alternate(not at Middle Tennessee)-there is hope! I guess I was fortunate that I was told what number alternate, though. To this this day, however, I am not sure how many alternates there were or how many were chosen.

Certainly the larger the class size the greater the chances of your being called up, although I have a friend in school now who was second alternate for a class of 12.

Give it some time to let all of the decision letters come in from the applicants that were chosen. You never know. I got the call a week or so after the last round of interviews. Just remind yourself that Middle Tennessee School of Anesthesia may not be everybody's first choice.

I would call and ask them how many there are, what number am I and how many students they took. I think it is rude for them not to give you that information. Most programs have between 4-6 alternates and will go at least 2 deep down the alternate list.

i was invited for an interview in mtsa in later december and i declined it as i was accepted by another school. mtsa accepted a lot of people through early interview. the remaining 18 people are chosen early this year probably just happened recently. the program asks a large deposit of $3,500, so the chance is low for somebody who paid large sum but eventually choose not going. the early admitted students have probably paid the money already and they definitely don't want lose that large amount. i think your chance is more dependent on those people who were offered acceptance recently to decline it without paying the deposit. the next couple of weeks are what you should focus on and after the period the chance is much lower. just pray for good thing to happen in the next several weeks; otherwise get ready for plan b or c if nothing happens. good luck!

Great question. I agree that you have to have a plan B and C. No need to stress because you will get in at some point if you truely desire to be a nurse anesthetist. I say this from a place equal to yours. If it is meant to be, then it will happen.

Congratulations on even being an alternate. It takes a lot just to do that. Yes, I would try to find out how far up the list I am. Typically, it can be a relatively short list, but you never know really

Some programs have an alternate for each position they fill. I also had been selected as an alternate for two different programs - I understand your stress.

I did not get into the programs at that time, but I did re-interview and made both programs the following year. In my situation it actually worked in my favor to wait the year, saved more money, gained more experience etc. The entire acceptance process is consuming, ie applying for loans etc, I think this would have been even more difficulty had I been selected from the alternate list.

I am new to posting to the board but have read many posts before. I am currently attending MTSA, class of 2006. That is great that you received an alternate this year. 4 or 5 of my classmates were alternates and got in. I don't know how many alternates they choose each year. But that is great that you are an alternate; just keep hoping a spot opens up. It is a great school to go to, and from what I heard, the competition was pretty stiff this year. The one student you were referring to was told a week before classes started that he got a spot, so keep hanging in there. Best of luck.
