critical care tech???

Does anyone know what a critical care tech. does? A friend told me about this guy she knows who is a critical care tech., and he told her that he watches the monitors to make sure nobody dies. (sounds like a classy guy, NOT) Anyway, he also told her that he brings home $3000 a paycheck. I'm assuming he gets paid every 2 weeks, but that sounds like an awful lot to bring home per paycheck for a tech. job. What kind of education and training do they need for this position? Thanks for any replies.

I wouldn't beleive one word of that. Monitor techs are the ones that observe thr monitors and they require special certification for that, but it is only one course, then exam. Their salaries are nothing like that. Most nurses do not even receive that in many areas.
