I've been reading different threads and posts about criminal backgrounds and which states are more lenient on certain offenses but I have not seen anything about the state of Virginia. I know the state of Virginia is very strict on a lot of issues. I have also researched the Virginia Board of Nursing site and called them as well.
Basically, what I'm getting to is I have a couple of convictions on my record from 3 years ago because I did something stupid that I should have thought through before I did it. Here's my story.... In the beginning of 2012 I got a DUI after being wrongfully stopped for going down a one way alley, when I clearly did not, anyways, long story short, my breathalyzer was .10. In Virginia, the legal limit is .08. So that was that and I paid my fines and did my classes and kept out of any other tickets and have nothing on my driving record ever since then. Later that year I went through a devastating jobless stage near the end of fall and got arrested for stealing some sweaters for me and my children. I was convicted of petit larceny. Prior to court, I took and passed a theft prevention class and paid all of my fines afterwards. I was never put on probation or anything of the sort. This is the only trouble I had ever been in in my entire life. Since then, I have worked very hard to prove that I am a responsible and trustworthy person, I've completed my first year in college and just started in the nursing program this year. I am highly regarded in all of my classes by all of the professors that know me and I have many references and job references. I also have a 3.8 gpa. Does anyone know anyone who has had any criminal convictions in the state of Virginia that can give me some insight on whether or not I'll be able to sit for the NCLEX and get licensed?
