Criminal background

I have completed all my prerequisties except for College algebra :o , but before I go any further I am concerned with my criminal background. I got a DUI almost 10 yrs ago, learned my lesson and don't drink anymore. I am scared of finishing the program and not being able to get my license. Does anyone know how far back the background will go? Or if this DUI will hurt me? Im in Arkansas now and when I confronted the Nursing office they really didn't know. I will hate to quit after going so far, but if it's going to hurt me, I would rather quit now than commit myself to 2 more years. Please help!

hello, arkgirl and welcome to allnurses.com

questions we seem to be encountering more and more often have to do with the effects of a criminal history on nursing licensure:

  • is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a criminal history?
  • what happens if you are charged or convicted of a crime after licensure?
  • is it possible to become licensed as a nurse with a dui?

these are questions that we at allnurses.com cannot answer. the only reliable source of information is your state bon.

the reason ar bon will not commit to an answer is because they will not do a background check any earlier than 12 months prior to the application process.

so, you will need to contact them prior to graduation to go through the process. each case is reviewed and decided on an individual basis. i'm sorry that i cannot be of further assistance.
