I am a relatively new PMHNP in MD. I am coming up on my one year anniversary and I am looking to renegotiate my contract. I currently see about 12-15 patients a day (depending on evals) 4 days a week, I am the second provider at a small private practice. I was considering going 1099, as I currently make 120k, no medical, no retirement, I pay my own malpractice (although I am also covered under the group policy). I get about 2 weeks paid holidays, 40 hrs sick, and 80 hrs vacation, 5 days CME. There is some CME covered, but I am paying for about half of it. I was thinking 1099 would be better for me from a tax advantaged point of view, but my employer is very against this and states I would lose money because of taxes. I love my job and the people I work with, I just need some guidance on how to renegotiate my contract when time is due. Any advice?
