I am on my first travel assignment and have been here for 6 weeks. Today I was informed (by email) by the ER director that my contract was being cancelled due to recently hiring of new staff. Now as of next week I will not have a job. Does this happen often with travel assignments? I'm really pretty upset over this and all my recruiter can do is try and find me another assignment. I was already making plans for my next assignment and starting a new assignment really throws everything off. Plans I was making for the holidays and a new assignment are all messed up. I can't afford not to work for 7 weeks. Does anyone know if I have any recourse with the hospital or my travel agency? If I have to worry about every contract being cancelled I'm not sure this is worth it. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

If you have a signed contract between you and your agency, I don't see how it can be broken. What agency is this?

I am new to travelling but I thought the contract was binding. It has a start and an end date so I don't think they can cancel it unless it is performance related. Just because they hired new staff does not mean they can cancel you. What if you found a better site, could you just tell them never mind? Heck no! You would be charged all kind of fees. I would fight this if I was you.

Just about any travel contract has a section in it about the facility being able to cancel. Look over your contract.
Why don't you look at some of the companies that specialize in short term contracts?
I'm with Onward Heathcare. My recruiter said this was the first time she had heard of it happeneing. I'm going to fight this. I have read and reread my contract and the only thing it says about termination if that if I fail to perform the clinical services required that they at their discretion can terminate the contract. I have call the director at the hospital and left messages for her to call me and she has not called. My recruiter has email the facility and has not heard from them either. So, I think I'll go camp out on the front steps and protest..... just kidding but maybe I could get some answers if I did.
My contract doesn't say anything about them being able to cancel it. If that was the case then nobody would travel.
