Contract buyout?

Published

I'm on my first travel assignment and the facility has approached me a few times to consider signing on as permanent staff. There has been made mention of buying out my contract. What would that entail? What does that mean?

Usually the contract between the agency and hospital specifies the terms would that happen after your contract term is over. From there, they negotiate an actual settlement. It will likely end up between five and ten thousand dollars. Could be higher depending on the negotiators, how much business the agency does with the hospital, and how much the hospital wants you. If it gets more expensive than just keeping you as a traveler, it won't happen. You are not involved but it for sure won't happen unless you want to sign on as staff. The hospital is going to want a contract from you for at least one year of service before they buy out your contract. If this happened to me, I'd ask to see a copy of that agency/facility contract. Might affect your own negotiation for staff compensation. I'd certainly ask for a signing bonus and relocation. Either the agency or the hospital can show the contract to you, but much more likely the hospital than the agency (if either). I've never seen a facility contract that specifies non-disclosure so if either one tells you that...
