Hello all,
I work as a companion and my patient is contact P. I know to protect myself by wearing gloves and gowns at all times but I recently began to see small bumps like pimples on my forearm and legs. I plan to go see a doctor as soon as possible because I think it is related to my patient. I won't be able to see my doctor until thursday but until then can someone explain to me exactly what is contact P and what are the side effects. Is it deadly, is it identifiable through blood test, can it get worst, etc. Please I need to know I am wrecking my brain about this. Thank you all in advance.

i think you're talking about contact precautions, which are added to the standard precautions used for pts known or suspected to have a disease and/or organism that is easily transmitted through either direct or indirect contact.
i don't think these bumps on your arms, are related to the disease process of your patient, i wouldn't think.
whoever informed you of the need for contact precautions, should be educating you further on what you might need to know about the patient.
were you sent from an agency?
if able, have someone get a hold of the visiting nurse for this patient; or anyone from nursing who could give you more information.
good luck.
