Hi, July...

well...if you are already a student nurse, this means that you have made your decision by now and want to pursue this career. But are you aware of what you need to become a nurse?

Also, are you considering specilizing yourself into something? In what?

Hi,

You have taken the first step, your a nursing student. use your clinical time to your advantage take every oportunity that is offered and then some during this time of learning. Dont be shy and most importantly dont be afraid to ask questions and say "can you explain that better". Nursing is full of wide range of oportunities, I have been a nurse for 18 years and have worked in many differant capcities and specialty areas. As an instructor I stick to what I was told by my first year instructor, get a good 6 to 12 months of medical surgical experience under your belt before you choose to specialize. The knowledge and skills you gain from it will be invaluable. Nursing is a wonderfull profession and the sky is the limit.

Best of luck to you

By specializing do you mean, lvn or rn ... ? I'm sorry. I'm new to this. I think I want to become an RN but haven't found a good school in Dallas. Is the best way to become a RN is to be LVN? Thank you

I don't know about being the best way, but you can become an LVN/LPN and then take some additional classes to become an RN (by brother-in-law is taking this route).
