Confused on Stipends??

Hi everyone....I don't intend to sound dumb, but can someone please explain exactly what stipends are on during travel assignments. I don't know a whole lot about them and want to be prepared when I talk to travel companies and want to get the best deal! Are stipends worth taking inyour opinions? Thank You!

Stipends are given for you to take the housing of your choice. You ae responsible for making sure it is adequate and that you pay it in full. You need to hold onto the receipts for your tax preparer to use as a business expense. That's your proof and also, it will work in your favor in my opinion. You will actually make more money because you are going to get that housing back instead of your agency providing and writing off the housing. Just be sure you stay in a place where you have the necessities.

Um, I was also wondering what stipends were and how they were handled.

So you're saying that is better to take a stipend in place of "free" housing because in the end you will get it back after taxes?

I don't quite understand. How does one earn more by providing their own place?
