Just wondering if anyone has any personal/professional experience with cone biopsies. Just found out today that I am going to have this procedure in the next couple of weeks. Just did the whole abnormal pap/colposcopy route and my doctor and I figured that this was the next best step to take regarding the CIN II->CINIII/CIS cells that were biopsied from the colpo. The doctor and I dicussed the LEEP procedure also but figured that this was the better way to go at this time. I have read up on the procedure but like to hear from this crowd as well. I know that the doctor will try core out as little as possible from the cervical canal as my husband and I do have a desire to have children in the next year or so barring any cancerous cells/further treatments that might impact pregnancy. Thanks in advance!

are you going to have this done in the doctor's office or at a hospital? we do a rare few in the hospital where i work in the or. i have actually assisted a third conization on one woman, and she had done quite well with the previous two. the size of the specimens are typically measured in millimeters, about the diameter of a quarter or less. what are your concerns aside from future fertility? i cannot attest to the viability of future pregnancies after conization...your doctor can best explain that.
I'm actually having the procedure done at an outpatient surgery clinic...it's kind of funny since half of the people that I work with in my unit have a "second" prn job at the surgery clinic that I am going to...so I suppose I will have lots of moral support. I don't really have any questions/concerns...just wanted to heart from those that have had it done and what they thought about the procedure/post procedure...my doctor is pretty is pretty good about explaining things (and so is the internet)...My doctor said that I can't life >25 lbs for a couple of weeks...so I guess I'll have to take some time off work or have someone do my lifting for me :)

I have had this done. If you want specifics, please PM me. Just not comfy talking about this on an open board.

I had a cone biopsy in 1988 following class IV PAP that did not resolve after cyro and colposcopy. Had general in small hospital and went home same day. I had just had a baby several months prior, but don't remember any problems following surgery. Class I PAP since then. I remember the doc said should wait a year to become pregnant, incompetent cervix possible...but rare, I think? Personnally, I thought that the colposcopy with punch biopsy was MUCH worse...no meds.
Good luck to you!
