Computer charting

I'm looking into doing agency nursing and the majority of hospitals in my area (Dallas) use an EMR program for charting. How are agency nurses trained to do computer charting if you are going from hospital to hospital?

Hi-I have been a traveler for many years and have gone from paper to computer. You are given an orientation period and at least one class in the computer format used on your new unit-sometimes over 2 hours or even 2 days depending on system. I do L&D so we always have at least 2 computer systems and thankfully they are often the same 2 systems. Most places, the other nurses (reg staff and other travelers) are extremely helpful. When you interview for assignment (be sure you always do a phone interview and ask questions that are important to you) they will tell you what you can expect during orientation. hope this helps:)

The agency would let you know what the requirements are. For all the hospitals I indicated an interest in they have provided me with an information sheet of that hospitals requirements and info. Some of the hospitals have their orientation to the computer systems on a disc I can put in my computer at home and complete as I have the time. Another hospital has a specific website to complete the modules. My preferrred agency even pays a bonus of $50 as incentive to complete on online module. There are some hospitals that have you go directly there to complete their computer training. I am currently not going to those. Since I am just starting out I only want to do a couple of hospitals until I get their systems down.
