Community Nursing Implications

Hi :nurse:

I am doing a community assessment on a small community with several issues (i.e. no roads, low literacy, low income, drinking and drug problems). What would be some nursing implications for this community? Thanks so much!

You need to provide your own ideas first, then others can chime in on the direction you are taking. :)

Well I was thinking maybe an educational clinic on the effects of drugs and alcohol? Or a government funded educational program for older adults?

I think you're jumping ahead a bit. What would a lack of roads imply for the community, i.e., if you set up an "educational clinic," how would they get there? Is there a home health service? You mentioned an educational program for older adults, but what are the demographics of your community, and does your assessment data reveal that they need to be educated on anything?

If you do decide on an educational clinic, how would it be delivered? Remember, you mentioned a low literacy level... Where would it be delivered? If this is a case study, you can always write suggested interventions with contingency statements, e.g. "If the community has an active senior center, education on (health need you identified, if any) should be provided at that site."

Good luck.
