Coding Fractures

Brand new to MDS and not sure how to code. Admitted a patient s/p left hip hemiarthroplasty secondary to fracture. Since this is a replacement, do code a fracture? What about an ORIF? Thanks!!

Check I3900, Hip fracture

In Section I8000, add the following codes:

  1. S32.89XD -Fracture of other parts of pelvis, subsequent encounter for fracture with routine healing (unless a specific part of the pelvis is spelled out)
  2. Z47.1 -Aftercare following joint replacement surgery, and
  3. Z96.642 -Presence of left artificial hip joint
