code blue question

hi guys i was taking this exam (pre-employment RN), and i got this question. "you are about to give a medication which is late on schedule when suddenly a code blue occurs, what do you do?" it was in essay format. could someone help me out on this? :p i answered something like helping in the code blue situation becoz its a medical emergency. what do you guys think?

You're right that a medical emergency takes precedence over a routine med. That said, if there was room for a written answer I'd include that, provided the code was well attended and under control, I'd return to my patients and make sure their care needs were being met.

In my experience, patients are most likely to fall, have chest pain, drop their sats, vomit or bleed when you're off dealing with another drama. That's why my ward always allocates at least one person to circulate the floor if everyone else is tied up with an emergency. If all the otehr patients are oky, that person starts catching up on meds, obs etc, while periodically checking in on the code.

Hope that helps :)
